Time Traveling

"My hobbies include having expensive hobbies and working too much to enjoy them."

This is the unfortunate explanation as to my sparse updates over the course of the summer. Fortunately, and despite the meticulous grind of work and other responsibilities that have kept me from shooting on a regular basis, I now have new photo-related goodnesss to share, finally.

But before I get to my most recent shoot, I'm going to start with an overdue entry that I never got around to posting earlier. At the beginning of June, I traveled to West Minster, Maryland, with boyfriend (and model for the day), Ross. Upon arrival, we met up with photographer/friend Kelly Heck and her model. We drove around to a couple of pre-picked outdoor locations that Ms. Heck had chosen on the outskirts of town.  While Kelly worked with her model, I worked with mine. Even though Kelly and I kept to our own shoots and equipment throughout the entire afternoon, I kept an eye out over my shoulder on my downtime to observe the way she was orchestrating things. It's always fascinating for me to watch how other photographers work, pose models, and solve problems.

Here is a quick candid I took of Kelly.

While Kelly was busy creating a fashion-inspired theme, I was arranging a folksy, backcountry vibe with my model.

This image is my personal favorite. A brief storm had just rolled through and a patch of blue sky peeked out from the clouds, creating a perfect opportunity for a stunning background.

On the second location, we shot along a set a railroad tracks which I felt was the perfect opportunity to create a subtle narrative with the banjo.
